Weekly Appreciation Post: Songs We Don't Understand

‘Sup Buzzfam!! This week’s appreciation post is dedicated to the songs that make no sense. I really want to know the writing process some artists/writers go through just to see what was going on through their heads when they wrote ridiculous songs.

“The Ketchup Song” by LAS.

I don’t know what the hell is going on here. I’ve looked up a ton of translations for the song and it still doesn’t make any sense. Where does the ketchup come into place? What’s up with the weird dances? I’m so confused. I remember there was a rumor saying that the song was “satanic” but what isn’t “satanic” these days.

“I’m Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend” by Black Kids.

The song is actually pretty straight forward…except for one part. One lyric in the song goes “you are the girl that I’ve been dreaming of ever since I was a little girl.” The lead singer is a man and he hasn’t had a sex change or anything. I’ve researched the lyrics of this song and it turns out that he means he’s been in love with the girl ever since he was in the womb and hadn’t grown any genitals yet. I guess this is kind of clever but why make everything so much more confusing!?

“Starships” by Nicki Minaj

I could’ve picked any Nicki Minaj song but I’ll just go with this one.

“Bennie and the Jets” by Elton John

When I listen to this, I don’t know what he’s talking about. When I read the lyrics to this song, I still don’t know what he’s talking about. But I think he’s talking about an influential band who makes kids rebel against adults/oppressors.

“Call Me Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepsen

So she missed the guy before he came into her life?? Ok, Carly. Ok.

“I Am The Walrus” by The Beatles

One word: DRUGS! Well drugs did have a part in this song but not all of it. I actually heard that The Beatles made this song because they found out that students were studying their songs in college. The quartet made the song to throw everyone out on a loop.

"I Want It That Way" by Backstreet Boys

WHAT WAY??!! 

"I'd Do Anything For Love (But I won't do that)" By Meatloaf

What won't he do?!!!!! 

Even though these songs make no sense what so ever, it is still fun to sing, dance, and listen to. So thank you, senseless songs, for making us try to wrap our brains around you’re lyrics.
