'The Glee Project' Recap: Season 2, Episode 9
Hey Gleeks, I’m just warning you now that this recap might turn into a rant towards the end. Just be ready. But anyway, onwards to the recap! This week’s theme of The Glee Project was Romanticality. For the homework assignment, the contestants had to pair up and perform “More Than Words” by Extreme for guest mentor Darren Criss.

Everyone does well but Blake really stood out. He finally won a homework assignment and got to pick his partner for the group number. He chose Ali, since they were paired up for the hw assignment and did well together.

The group number this week was “We Found Love” by Rihanna. I was really hoping that they would reenact the scene from Glee for the music video so this could happen:

The video modeled after The Breakfast Club but instead of getting to know each other, the cast leave detention to rendezvous with their significant others. The couples were: Blake & Ali, Shanna & Aylin, and Michael & Lily.

At first, Lily wanted to be paired up with Blake and was really surprised that he didn’t choose her as his partner. She says she shares a “fire” with Blake… can someone tell me when that was shown through out the whole season? Anyway, the video was great but a few people had issues along the way. Aylin and Shanna’s performance in the video wasn’t believable enough so they were placed in the bottom three. Blake was also chosen to be in the bottom three because he had problems harmonizing in the recording studio.
The first last chance performance came from Aylin singing “The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face” by Roberta Flack. She does an amazing job as usual.
Next is Blake singing “Losing My Religion” by R.E.M. At first the judges are worried that Blake has no vulnerable side; he’s just too perfect. But Blake comes out on the stage and his nerves showed the human side of him which the judges loved. He did a great job even though he was nervous about being in the bottom three for the first time. The judges tell him to show a more vulnerable side and stop being so perfect.

And lastly, Shanna blesses the stage with a performance of “Stronger” by Kelly Clarkson. She sounds amazing but Ryan worries about what role she would play on Glee. Shanna basically says she can see herself as a Cheerio but Ryan doesn’t buy it. In the end, she gets booted off.
Rant time:

This situation is very similar to what happened last season with Marissa. Marissa was a beautiful, powerful singer but when she performed in the bottom three for the first time, she was kicked off. Shanna, who is also a beautiful and powerful singer, was booted off after her first time being in the bottom too. I’ve come to realize that Ryan Murphy will also pick a safe contender and by safe, I mean a person who won’t upstage Lea Michele. Let’s be honest people, Glee isn’t about being a loser; Glee is about fulfilling all the dreams of Rachel Berry. But in all honesty, I never imagined Shanna winning the competition but I don’t think it’s fair that she was kicked off in this episode. She shouldn’t have even been in the bottom three. The person who needed to be in the bottom was MICHAEL! How does this dude continue to glide by this whole competition?
Sidenotes:
1. There was a spoiler in one of The Glee Project commercials. In the commercial, Aylin is shown wearing a Hijab which hasn’t happened yet. Because of this, I knew she wasn’t going home. Shame on you, Oxygen!
2. Nellie and Dani did a cover of “We Found Love” and proved why they are too awesome to be on Glee.
3. At this point, I’m REALLY rooting for Aylin.
How do you feel about this elimination? Do you think Ryan will choose a “safe” contender?
